The view from Halii Kai rental unit 12A was spectacular, and we watched whales from the patio. The owner had great binoculars there, which made it even better. We were there before Christmas, and it felt like heaven on earth from the moment we arrived. The manicured grounds gave us such a warm welcome, and the place had the true spirit of Aloha. The condo was amazing, honestly better than the Ritz Carlton in my experience. The kitchen was so well equipped that it saved us a lot of money, the beds were comfortable, and the AC was frigid. There was everything we could need, from snorkel gear to beach coolers, towels, chairs, umbrellas, and more. We wanted for nothing. The pool was just a one minute walk away, and the restaurant was amazing too. I booked through kbm instead of the other popular travel site, and I’m glad I did. It was a stellar experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. The price felt so worth it that I almost didn’t post a review, but the owners deserved one.

We spent two weeks here as a family, and it was perfect. There’s a lot to explore on foot and plenty to do nearby. Swimming was great, whether at the pool or at beaches around the area. We watched whales and dolphins almost every morning over coffee on the balcony. I’d recommend this place.

The location and view were amazing, and the pool and club were great too. The kids loved them, and everyone we met who worked at the resort was very nice. The unit itself felt a bit tired, though. The carpet was stained, the master TV didn’t work, the shower glass was dirty, and the shower door had come off its track. The master curtains were strangely about two feet too narrow to cover the window. We arrived at 6:30 pm and found nobody there for check-in. The entry codes had gone to spam, which I understand was my fault for not finding them, but nobody answered the front desk number and there was no after-hours emergency contact. I think 6:30 pm is a reasonable time to expect someone to be available. Eventually someone from the reservation office helped us, but it was dark and the whole thing got the vacation off to a bad start. The listing said beach towels were provided, but there weren’t any in the unit, and pool towels couldn’t be taken out. There are lots of places to stay on this part of the island, so I might look at other options next time.

We were here for six days during the severe storm in March, but stayed very comfortably despite all the wind and rain. The condo was clean and well stocked, with excellent internet and TVs. Kona is close enough to drive into town, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby when you don’t want to go far. The Costco agent recommended this property, and the price worked out really well for what we needed. I’d easily stay here again next time we visit the island.

We return to Halii Kai every year. The grounds are very well cared for, and the condos have a great layout. The pool area is stunning without feeling pretentious, and the food is excellent. It’s the best place on the island to see whales.
