The billiard room is the real deal, with a true table and straight cues, unlike most places. It’s ringed with old books and modern literature left by visitors from around the world in several languages, and there are plenty of board games for groups. This would be fantastic for a big family reunion or any group that wanted the whole place for their stay. I’ve been working on the Big Island for two years, and the condo I’d been working in recently sold, so I needed temporary lodging. This place is amazing and gets you to unplug from the digital world and take in the beauty of the house and grounds. Some reviews mention a musty smell in the main house, but to me that’s part of the charm and authenticity of the historic building. After work, I’d wander around the main house with a glass of wine, taking in each room and imagining the possibilities for such a beautiful place. The nights I stayed were cold and rainy, but I loved it. The bed was warm and cozy, a nice break from the Hawaiian heat just down the hill from Waimea.

The rooms are large, and the bathroom was very clean, but the room itself wasn’t. There was a urine and mold smell throughout, even with the windows open and fan running. The ceilings had mold or mildew, cabinets were dusty, baseboards dirty, and the bed throw pillows smelled. For the price, they could surely provide Wi-Fi throughout the facility and a TV. There was no sign showing where to park, and checkout at 10 a.m. is earlier than average.

It’s a clean, quaint place near the heart of Waimea, and the bathrooms are amazing. Our room was spacious and the price decent. It felt more like a bed and breakfast, though breakfast and many amenities aren’t included. The hotel wasn’t advertised much around town, so we’re glad we found it.

The room was huge and the grounds were lovely, but the bed and room smelled stuffy and dusty, like they hadn’t been used in 20 years. I was staying in Waimea for my sister’s baby shower the next day, but she unexpectedly went into labor that night. I ended up at the hospital and her home instead of sleeping in that hard, dusty bed, perhaps fortunately. I was disappointed I didn’t get to use the large bath. The bathroom itself looked very much like one in a honeymoon suite.
