Kohala Lodge- Vacation Rental House

The pony was a fun surprise at Kohala Lodge, and the place had everything I needed. I stayed a few days in a very peaceful, spacious lodge in the northern part of the Big Island, quite close to Hawi. If you’re looking for a serene break away from everything, this is a good place to stay.

We made feeding the pony and goats part of our morning routine, and loved having so many little details around the property. There’s a hammock among quiet fir trees and a swing looking down over the land toward the ocean. The sunset views were amazing, and the house had great details. It was peaceful and quiet, with distant ocean views and Maui in the background from its elevated spot. The house was well equipped and you can see the views from almost every window. Hawi is less than a 10-minute drive. It has a few decent restaurants, a nice gourmet grocer, some gift shops, and a coffee shop. There’s also a full grocery store about a mile from downtown Hawi. The hosts were wonderful. Thanks for sharing your slice of heaven with us. We can’t wait to return!

We spent five nights here in late March 2023, then went to the other side of the island for seven more. Pretty quickly, we wished we’d booked all twelve nights here. It’s so quiet and peaceful, with fewer tourists on this end of the island. At the bottom of the road there’s a cute little town with a couple of places to eat and get coffee. The pictures don’t do it justice. Truly feels like paradise.

The hosts had great suggestions, from hours of horseback riding to UTV tours, and we enjoyed them all. The drive up also makes you want to explore the local scenery and learn about the area’s unique history. This cedar house was designed by the host, and it’s a real masterpiece. We felt right away that it was the most amazing rental we’d ever stayed in. We only had two nights, but it was relaxing from the start and made a great base for nearby adventures. We left feeling rejuvenated and already planning to return. Tip: call the host if you have questions. They said they regularly take calls and have other good reasons to get in touch ahead of time.
