Paradise Bay Resort

I’d come back, but I’d pick a larger room with a bay view. The resort itself is beautiful, and the setting is quiet and residential, right by the water. Our room felt cramped and dated, with stains around the shower and a loud window AC. There was no fan or air conditioning in the living area, and without a screen on the door we couldn’t leave it open for fresh air because of the bugs near the bay. The rooms also weren’t soundproofed, so we could hear the TV in both adjoining units. There’s no backup generator if the power goes out.

Kevin and the friendly staff made late check-in easy, greeted us warmly each day, and checkout was simple. The room could use some updating, as other reviews have mentioned, but it was clean and comfortable. We especially loved having coffee and banana bread every morning.

We kayaked, went on the boat trip with captain Dawn and Jelly, and enjoyed uncle Dan and the fresh, warm banana bread each morning. The amenities were wonderful, and the quiet resort was a nice escape from the bigger resorts on the big island. Our unit was ready when we arrived, and they left a bottle of wine to celebrate my birthday. We had a wonderful 5 day, 6 night family vacation, though it felt too short. Thanks for making it special!

The room was pretty nice, and the location is wonderful, with easy access to SUP and kayaking. Still, this was a really disappointing experience. The bathroom was dark because there was no light over the shower, and it drained so poorly that our showers became baths. My girlfriend had never tried SUP before, but when we signed up, nobody from the resort came to explain how it worked or give us any guidance. We had to look around for someone, and the maintenance staff didn’t have much to say. I fell off my board in Kahaluu bay and badly scratched my leg and foot. It would’ve helped to know that parts of the bay are only a few feet deep and have rocks on the bottom to avoid. We also booked the Saturday “Paradise Bay Experience Package” to snorkel at the reef and walk around the sandbar, with a 10 am departure. At 9:50, they called to confirm, and I said yes both to checking out and to going on the trip. A few minutes later we went upstairs to check out. That took a few minutes, partly because they insisted we return our towels and car parking pass right then instead of after the experience. When we got back, we saw the boat leaving the dock at 9:58. The front desk said it was our fault because we were supposed to arrive five minutes early, but nobody told us that when we booked or in the follow-up email. They called the captain to bring the boat back, even though I’d confirmed ten minutes earlier that we were coming, which apparently hadn’t been passed on. We got on at 9:59, a minute before the scheduled departure, after all that hassle. Nobody apologized or even acknowledged what had happened, including the boat staff. This place could be a five-star hotel and experience with staff who showed more compassion, customer service, and care for hospitality.
