The scenery alone was stunning, and there’s plenty to do whether you want to get outside or unwind by the river. The staff knew their stuff and were incredibly helpful. Our ride in by bus came with lots of wildlife sightings, from bears to elk. Hikes were rated accurately, so there were options for different abilities. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style, with plenty of healthy food to keep you going, and dinner had several tasty choices, including a vegetarian option.
Even the bus ride, though a bit long, gave us a chance to spot several bears, moose, sheep, and a fox carrying a little Denali critter burrito. The lodge itself is beautiful, with a huge common area and lots of cozy places to sit. The staff were friendly, informative, and fun, and the fresh food was plentiful and very good. There are trails for all levels, from easy, casual walks to really challenging hikes. We also met great people from all over the USA.
The evening talks were clear and engaging, and I learned a lot. I also went hiking with Sebastian, Valerie and Daniel, who were knowledgeable, articulate, and made the trips both fun and educational. The place is quiet and beautiful, a lovely spot to spend time in nature, and the staff were wonderful and attentive. On the way in and out along the 92.5 mile road, we saw bears, moose, beaver, eagles, caribou, Dall sheep, and ptarmigan. The food was very good, too.
I’ve never had a better vacation. The helicopter ride out to the lodge was a great start, and the scenery was unmatched. Nova managed everything so well and kept us informed. The on-site naturalists led knowledgeable hikes and gave nightly programs about the flora and fauna, park history, and the landslide that closed the park road. The food was amazing, and every detail of our stay went beyond what we expected. This was the best part of Alaska!
There’s plenty to do here, with options for different interests and ability levels, and the cheerful, energetic staff were always helpful. Meals were fresh and had a good range for different diets: breakfast and lunch were buffets, while dinner came with three choices. The nightly desserts were both huge and delicious. The ride in feels long, but the historical facts, stories, and wildlife sightings break it up nicely. The facilities are well kept and surprisingly clean despite all the mud. Bring full rain gear and you can still have a good day. This place deserves its high ratings.
