DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New Orleans Airport

The staff were great. When my shower had an issue, the engineer came by and fixed it almost right away. The rooms are spacious, the air conditioning works well, and the bed and bathroom were clean, though some spots in the room were clearly missed during routine cleaning. Breakfast was the usual hotel spread, with fresh produce and warm food constantly replenished. The restaurant was less successful: I liked the burger, but my steak and chicken wings were overcooked, and the tomato basil soup was too sweet. I’d plan to eat elsewhere if you stay here.

Nichol helped us arrange everything through the mobile app, on the phone, and when we arrived. We stayed an extra day before our flight because a freeze was coming, and they were happy to help with whatever we needed. Being near the airport was the main thing for us, and the ride to and from there was useful. We felt right at home and were happy with our stay. We had a fridge in the room, but no microwave, so we brought food and used the one downstairs. We’d hoped for complimentary breakfast like some cheaper hotels offer, and $19 felt steep. A hot tub would’ve been nice too, lol. Thanks, Dbl Tree and Nichol, and happy Mardi Gras Season.

Breakfast service left the worst impression. After paying about $50 for two breakfasts, we asked to take a plate back upstairs. Some staff tried to help with to-go plates, but the same employee followed us to the front desk and kept questioning and confronting us. It felt harassing and made the meal unpleasant. Earlier, when we asked to charge breakfast to the room, that employee questioned whether we could. Soon after, a guest of a different race asked the same thing and was allowed to charge it without hesitation. The interaction felt discriminatory. Breakfast wasn’t included, which we understood, but it cost over $20 per person and the way we were treated was uncomfortable and unprofessional. The room was $157 for one night, with no breakfast included. It looked outdated and had no microwave, which didn’t meet my expectations for that price. The breakfast service overshadowed the stay. I expected a more modern room and respectful, equitable treatment, and didn’t get either.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, the location made airport access easy, and the wings were good. The rooms were fine, and having a shuttle to and from the airport was convenient. There were problems too. The building had a distinct smell when you walked in, and trash was scattered along the hallways on our floor. I was disappointed with the food I used my credit for at breakfast, and the woman making my toast had no gloves on. The bartender was overwhelmed entering orders into the system and told me to come back in 15 minutes. As a Hilton Honors member and timeshare owner, this wasn’t one of my better Hilton stays. We booked based on what we saw online without checking reviews. I’d rate cleanliness 0, food service 2, and the stay 3/5.
