Hampton Inn Kent/Akron Area

The hotel seems like it could be nice when you first walk in, but it’s not being maintained and the cleaning is awful. I had to change rooms three times. In the second-floor rooms especially, the showers weren’t clean at all: there was mold and hair on the shower walls, floors, and toilets. The towels were old, stained, and gross, and the tile grout was chipped and falling apart. They need to redo the bathrooms and improve housekeeping, whether that means hiring a new team or paying the staff enough to care about the work. Until that happens, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Getting on and off the interstate was easy from here, and the room itself was clean. The bathroom needs some work, though: grout was missing from the tile and the shower curtain was too short. There was also a strong men’s cologne or Axe spray smell as soon as we entered, like a middle school bathroom. I didn’t like the lobby coffee, and the omelette tasted gross to me. My husband did enjoy breakfast.

Our room had working air conditioning, and without that we couldn’t have stayed. The rest of the first floor was very hot because the air conditioning in the lobby, weight room, and common areas wasn’t working. The weight room was 82 degrees, so we couldn’t exercise, and the breakfast area was too warm for us to stay and eat. The morning staff were kind and professional when we heard from them that someone was coming to work on the problem. I understand mechanical problems happen, but the evening desk clerk made the experience much worse. When we asked about the heat, she was on her phone with her feet on the desk and casually said there was nothing she could do, adding that she used a fan. She also said it wasn’t her usual shift. Her dismissive attitude was really off-putting. We’ll likely choose somewhere else if we’re in the area again rather than stay at Hampton Suites Kent/Akron.

This was the dirtiest hotel we’ve ever stayed in, and we couldn’t relax. The TV was covered in greasy fingerprints, and there were food crumbs all over the floor, as if nobody had vacuumed. The shower was grimy and moldy and clearly hadn’t been cleaned between guests. Basic housekeeping seemed to be ignored from the moment we arrived. I wouldn’t stay here again if cleanliness or comfort matters to you.
