The location would have been convenient for the inter-island ferry, even if it’s not in the best part of town. But the rooms were in poor shape, including a cracked toilet, and there was a loud buzzing noise in the lobby. Avoid. I booked partly because of the price, despite my better judgment, and found what looked like bedbugs in my room. The desk let me switch rooms twice, but both new rooms had the same issue (pics attached). The manager promised a refund and never followed through despite several follow-ups. Booking partner offer, Booking confirmed the property had to confirm the refund and did not authorize them.

The room was roomy, clean, and well cared for, with a comfortable bed and amenities that all worked. Housekeeping was consistent, and the window view was a nice surprise. I had a wonderful stay, it was great value for money, and I’d highly recommend it.

The front desk service was good, and from the frosted, aged glass window I had a view that I told myself added a bit of ambience. That just about saved the stay. I paid almost $300 for one night before my morning flight to Wrangell, and got a musty room with stained walls and no AC. For the price, being told it was “tourist season” and amenities were limited was disappointing. To me it felt more like a motel than a hotel. It was my first time traveling solo out here, and I mainly blame myself for not planning better. But if I visit Ketchikan again, I won’t book a musty room like that. I chose convenience because it was close to the airport, and gave up comfort.

The staff who run this motel are very nice and try to accommodate you. The place is clean and the beds are comfortable, and it’s close to downtown and a nearby Safeway. Parking is free and ample. As far as I know, only The Landing is a good alternative. You could do worse, and they could do better. It’s aging and badly short on maintenance, so a motel that could be welcoming instead feels third rate. A lamp was unplugged because there was no outlet, and it had no bulb. There were holes left in the wall when a mirror was moved, with no effort to fill them. One morning the breakfast room had coffee but no sweetener; the next, no milk or cream. The juice machine was broken, and coffee was the only hot item. Beds had thin bedspreads but no blankets, and only two small pillows each. The in-room mini coffee makers had sparse supplies, and the thermostats in common areas were broken. The owners have let it get old and rundown instead of handling obvious maintenance.
