I wouldn’t recommend this place, and I won’t stay at The Motor Lodge in Kewanee again. We booked a two-bed room for four, but at check-in the woman at the desk said only two people could stay. That made no sense to me with two beds. The online booking also offered a smoking room, which I selected, but once we arrived there were signs everywhere warning of a $50 fine for smoking or vaping. The room smelled strongly of cigarettes already, so it seemed people had smoked there before and it hadn’t been cleaned. The desk clerk was rude and had a bad attitude. I didn’t want to spend my money there, but cancelling would still have meant a charge.

It’s clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced, though nothing fancy. I’ve stayed here for several years, usually about one weekend a month when I visit family and friends in my hometown. The location is handy for downtown, and the manager is a wonderful woman, friendly, honest, and hardworking.

For anyone watching their budget, this is a good value and worth staying at. The owners are caring and kind, and do what they can to keep the place tidy and safe. You can walk easily to Amtrak or a few nearby restaurants, which you can’t do as easily from the other hotels in town.

I spent six months here and had a fantastic stay. The weekly rates were a real bargain for the quality, whether you’re staying briefly or for longer. Every day the hotel was spotless, and the owner’s care for cleanliness made it feel welcoming and comfortable. I also felt valued because of the thoughtful, personal service. The owner clearly cares about hospitality, and I’m sure others will enjoy staying here as much as I did. I highly recommend it for the cleanliness, service, and value.
