Grand Maloney Hotel

On our first trip to the Keys, we spent two nights in Key West and rented a very clean apartment in a cute, safe-feeling neighborhood. We could walk to every place on our list, and the location was GREAT. The staff were so responsive, too. I messaged late at night about an outlet and they replied right away, then had maintenance there the next morning. Highly recommend.

The carriage house room was private and set apart from the main house, though it could use some improvements. The check-in and check-out instructions were very well organized. The location was handy for restaurants, attractions, shopping and the harbor, while being far enough from busy Duvall street to stay peaceful and quiet. The back pool area and front porch were both pleasant spots to relax with a drink.

We booked the blue room for a special occasion, but left disappointed and with throat and skin irritation. There was black mold on the vents in the bedroom, bathroom and common area. When I told management, they offered to send maintenance to inspect it, but we waited over an hour and nobody came. They then offered to move us to another property. By then it was late, and after an evening out in Key West we would have had to pack up and relocate. They eventually refunded the $90 cleaning fee and said their inspection found dirt. I don’t think the pictures look like dirt. Disappointed with The Grand Maloney.

We were told the room we’d booked on the first floor was being serviced, so we ended up on the second floor. My wife is very handicapped and struggles with stairs, which here were also outdated and felt dangerous. We spoke with the people renting the first-floor room and learned it wasn’t being serviced, despite what we’d been told. The stairs made it hard for my wife to get out and enjoy town, and it really limited our trip. We spent over $1500 for three nights and should have been taken better care of, especially since we paid that much to stay downtown. The alternative offered was a place 15 minutes away, meaning we’d need a shuttle to get in. It kind of ruined the whole vacation.
