Havana Cabana at Key West

The surprise charges were a shock: a $900 deposit at check-in that hadn't been disclosed when we booked, then a $500 "resort fee" charged quietly FIVE DAYS after checkout. We were never told about that fee, and we didn't use the resort or touch the complimentary drinks it supposedly covered. The bartenders were some of the most pretentious and unfriendly people I've encountered in hospitality, so we left those drinks alone. The drinks had been included in the resort fee they charged after we left. Our sleep was awful. The beds were sunken and uneven, so I woke up feeling like I'd slept in a ditch, and the flat pillows felt like cardboard in pillowcases with no support. Children were screaming and running around at all hours, with no staff intervention. The food truck on the property gave me food poisoning. I'll leave it at that. Between the hidden fees, food poisoning, sleepless nights, and rude staff, Havana Cabana took our money and delivered nothing in return. The place made clear from the start that our comfort was nobody's concern. Don't let the photos fool you, it's all facade. We will never return, and strongly urge you to keep looking. Anyone hit with surprise post-checkout charges should dispute them with their credit card company as an undisclosed fee. You have a strong case.

The pool had a great atmosphere, and the staff and everyone there were pleasant. The rooms were nice, though we found ants on the bathroom counter and the countertop under the TV. Drinks at the outside bar cost too much for what were cheap drinks, and the food was overpriced for its quality. The hot tub felt like warm bath water and needs to be hotter.

We stayed in December and loved it. Our room was very clean and presentable, with everything we needed. The pool is the biggest one in Key West, and the grounds were immaculately maintained. Staff were super helpful and polite whenever we spoke with them. We'd read comments about the rooster and hens waking people in the morning, but they didn't bother us at all. It all adds to the atmosphere of the Keys. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Nick around the pool is THE MAN!! The staff were super fun, the service was amazing, and the property was really clean. There was a DJ by the pool, plus free Jell-O shots and churros every hour. We had great food at reasonable prices during our three-day annual guys trip. A great home base for a Key West party weekend, what's not to love?
