Hyatt Vacation Club at Windward Pointe, Key West

The pool is big and great, and the rooms are so nice you could live in them. There are lots of activities, too. But our room, 5511, had a bad view, and the hotel service didn't help when we asked to change rooms. My mom was upset when she saw it, and it was especially disappointing because we were celebrating my dad's 50th birthday and got what felt like the worst room. One Serbian woman at a desk was nice, though. Nice people are always a good part of service. I'm giving three stars because of room 5511. If I come back and get a better room, I'll update my review. What a “GREAT” view for a half century birthday.

The resort and room are stunning and very clean, with tropical flowers, plants, and birds around the grounds. There's a big infinity pool, a jacuzzi, and plenty to do, including ping pong, volleyball, pool, lawn chess, cornhole, and more. Caribbean music gives the place a Key West feel, and the poolside restaurant has great food and drinks. Everyone was chill and it felt very family friendly. My 12 year old loved it. The room has two good sized bedrooms and bathrooms, a living and dining room, a fully supplied kitchen, three huge smart TVs with cable, and a washer and dryer with soap included. Smather’s Beach is walkable, and bikes, e-bikes, or golf carts can be delivered and picked up if you rent them. I was bummed that our patio's concrete divider blocked the ocean view while seated. I thought all patios were open, but some are obstructed. We were next to the lobby, too, with a full view of our patio, and I'd wanted a special setting for my husband's birthday. Even so, the room and grounds made up for it, and I'd absolutely return, though I would really like that full ocean view from the patio. Just know you might get a blocked view. The airport is beside the condos, but we like planes and it didn't bother us. It gets quiet there at night. If an obstructed view and the airport are okay with you, book it, you won't regret it.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and very nice, and the location made it easy to get around. Those were the best parts of our weekend. The service, though, left a bad impression. Check-in itself went smoothly, but the woman at the desk seemed ignorant and unwelcoming, which made things uncomfortable right away. The worst part was how my family was treated at the bar. Most of us speak Spanish, but we were calm and respectful, never loud or disruptive. Whenever my father went to the bar, the same employee, Andrea, was nasty to him and gave him noticeably poor service, despite his tipping well. This continued throughout the weekend and seemed directed only at the family members speaking Spanish. It honestly felt racially motivated and discriminatory. No one should be treated differently because of their language or background. I hope management takes the experience seriously and makes sure all guests receive the same respect and professionalism.

The condo was comfortable and laid out well. Having a fridge, dishwasher, stocked cabinets, and a washer and dryer was useful, and detergent and dryer sheets were provided. April at the front desk was incredible to work with, and Megan was friendly too. Quite the duo! The pool had a great view. Planes from the airport next door didn't fly very early or late, so we weren't bothered. We saw a nice mix of retired couples and young families, and my son loved the sand volleyball. We rented a car and went to Fort Zachary, which was way good for sunsets. We plan to book here again.
