Mount Rushmore''S Washington Inn And Suites

The staff were friendly, and we had a nice stay in a great location. We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony, though there should be more outdoor chairs. People kept taking chairs from one another. The carpet needs replacing, or at least a shampoo, and the parking lot is really tight.

The rooms were clean, though not spotless, and the beds were comfortable but nothing special. The AC could barely keep up with the outdoor temperature. The employees weren’t very friendly, didn’t greet us in the morning, and acted like it was a chore when we asked for anything. This feels about on par with Motel 6 or Super 8, and I can’t say they’ve earned a return visit. At least they welcome pets.

A suite for two nights was a good deal and worth the price. It had two queen beds, one king, and a jacuzzi tub big enough for two. The hotel sits in the middle of the small town before Mount Rushmore, with plenty to do within walking distance. There’s no continental breakfast.

The location worked well for sightseeing, but the stay left me wondering what we’d slept on those first two nights and what the next guest would get. We were there three days. A note in the room said they’d skip washing sheets to save resources unless we put the paper on the bed. I did that, but the sheets still weren’t changed the first day. I marked them for the second day, and they still weren’t changed, so I called the desk. Two women came up looking upset that I’d complained, and a third came to make fun of them. They spoke another language, so I couldn’t tell what they were saying about us, but it didn’t feel complimentary. Earlier, while bringing in luggage after check-in, I had to walk around a male employee on break, sprawled across the sidewalk and playing or texting. He looked up and spoke on my third trip. Parking was cramped and difficult to get in and out of.
