Mariner Inn and Suites

This is an oldie but goodie, the kind of place locals return to after moving away from the beach. The staff were very nice, and it’s right on the ocean, which was lovely for a winter walk on the beach. I sat outside on the wooden chairs and read. I liked having a microwave and fridge in the room, along with the option to make coffee or tea. Bring your own tea bags. There were lots of TV channels, and I love Hallmark during the holidays.

The bed was so comfortable, and I liked having a separate sitting area. The room itself was good, but we did report a broken dresser drawer. Breakfast had eggs, bagels, toast, and muffins; I would have liked some fruit. The ice maker was broken too. The TV situation was frustrating. The remotes didn’t work until the batteries were replaced, and then the TVs would run for about 15 minutes before cutting out. We were told Spectrum was having an issue. Maintenance spent about 20 minutes trying to fix it, but afterward the living room TV only had four Spanish-speaking channels and the bedroom TV had four stations. Luckily, the Olympics were on, though the TVs still only worked sporadically.

The pictures are outdated, and what looked like a bargain turned out to be far from one. Our rooms were filthy and outdated, with dehumidifiers and a smell of pet urine. My son has severe allergies and couldn’t breathe after about 20 minutes. We tried another room, but it was just as bad or worse, so we had to book a different hotel for the three-day weekend. The hotel refused a refund, and the manager hasn’t replied to me or Expedia. I’ll have to take the loss, which feels very unfair. Stay away!

Beach access and location were great, and the front desk person was very sweet. But the room was hard to sleep in: there was a blinking blue light on the wall, crumbs in one of the beds, and the temperature control was loud and finicky. I couldn’t get the TV working properly either. The breakfast was barely a breakfast, I think they only had pancakes. Cigarette smoke was easy to smell inside the room.
