The family care behind this inn really shows. It’s been run that way for years, and it feels like it. After a long day on the trails, the attached pub is a great spot for food and pints. Breakfast is included and amazing, and the stay itself is cozy. You get unmatched value here. Five stars all around.

The free shuttle into town was a real plus, and saved us from driving or paying for Ubers. We stayed two nights and loved the place enough to plan on coming back, though I want to mention a few things people might care about. Breakfast was included and fantastic, with a wonderfully cozy dining room. The waitstaff were kind and attentive, and we enjoyed talking with them. McGrath’s pub had that lovely Irish atmosphere, live music from an incredible band, and delicious food. Beef stew was our favorite, and the shepherd’s pie and spinach salad with grilled chicken were good too. We didn’t order the nachos, but they looked great. The drinks list is mostly basic beers, wine and cocktails, with Guinness and whiskey as the main draws. I’m picky and would have liked more choices, maybe seltzers, teas, or a Moscow mule. The rustic Irish cottage feel grabbed me as soon as we walked in. We were on the third floor. I think the second floor has bigger windows for those gorgeous views. The room was simple and very clean, with no TV, but the WiFi worked fine despite what some other reviews say. The shower was nice and had plenty of hot water, though the plumbing was a little slow. The springy beds were just okay, but fine if you’re not fussy about comfort. I believe the fireside rooms with a TV and fireplace are separate from the main inn, more like a motel, and you may have to walk outside to reach the inn. It’s a short walk. My husband and I really loved our cozy stay. The good outweighed the things that could be better.

Thanks for the hiker rate and the free breakfast. I had a really good stay in September, and loved all the trail magic. Such a special place, and within walking distance of Gifford woods state park. I’ll be back for another month in the best of Vermont!

I booked a room for my family online three weeks ahead and got a confirmation, with the site showing at least four rooms available. Later, the inn called my husband but left no message. When he returned the call, he was told our room wasn’t available and offered another one for more than $200 above the original reservation. When I asked how that could happen, I was told they take bookings online and by phone and “can’t always update the system,” so the online availability might be wrong. Customers who receive a confirmation should be able to rely on it. If they can’t honor online bookings, offering them this way is misleading and unfair. Someone also said they’d call me back, but never did. I understand businesses need to make money, but accuracy and communication matter too. This experience left me disappointed and made it clear that customer service and satisfaction aren’t a priority here.

Amanda was the daytime innkeeper while I was there, and really went out of her way to make my stay good. I was hiking the Long Trail and stayed Tuesday and Wednesday. The pub was closed, but there was plenty to eat, laundry, and package delivery. I took the free bus to Rutland twice and to Killington once. Bonus: I got to meet Stokli, the best dog in all of VT! Many thanks.
