North Star Lodge and Resort

This was our second visit, and we’ll come again. The lift was out when we arrived, and since my husband is disabled they moved us to a suite on the third floor so we wouldn’t need the stairs. It was a beautiful room, and the jacuzzi bath was lovely.

Everything has been so clean on my many stays in one of the suites, and they’ve had everything I needed. There’s also a handy little shop for snacks or forgotten necessities, plus a game room with a huge bookshelf. Killington’s attractions are all very close.

Vermont itself is beautiful, but this lodge was a huge disappointment. We stayed the night on October 16 while traveling from Colorado to Maine, and, as people familiar with lodge hotels, we were shocked by the wear and tear. The peeling hallway wallpaper was one example, and the room wasn’t really clean and needed another thorough cleaning. It also wasn’t the room shown online that persuaded us to book. In the bathroom, there was little or no caulking and water stains on the ceiling, while the shower head looked at least 20 years old. The windows were so weathered and frosted that we couldn’t see outside. The refrigerator sat on wood blocks, and there was no desk, table, or workspace. I’d recommend this lodge to no one. Thank goodness we weren’t traveling with children.

We usually ask for a fifth-floor room because our room this time wasn’t up there and was a little noisier. Still, we love North Star and keep coming back when we’re in Killington. It’s not fancy and could use some updating, but it’s a great place to rest, right on the access road. The heated outdoor pool is great, and we love The Starlight Lounge. Dan and John are always wonderful to see at the bar, which has live music on weekends, simple but tasty food, and great drinks. There’s free coffee in the morning, too. Can’t wait to visit again!
