Summit Lodge

The breakfast is incredible, and the bar is a fun spot. Everyone on staff was welcoming and friendly. The hot tub is big and hot. We can’t wait to return to Killington.

The facility itself is pretty cool, and the pools seemed like they’d be nice when heated. I didn’t expect them to be on during the off-season, so that was okay. But check-in took almost 25 minutes because no one came to the desk. The sign said to press the phone button for help; I tried four times with no answer, then had to ask a restaurant waiter to find someone. Someone was apparently standing 10 feet away in the kitchen, heard the calls, and ignored them. The rooms are bare bones, and the linens, including the robes, had stains. It’s a great location, which makes the experience frustrating.

I won’t stay at the Summit again. It’s hard to understand how it could be rated above one star when getting a good night’s sleep was impossible. Noise carried from everywhere: people talking in nearby rooms, doors slamming, footsteps in the hall, and even toilet lids and seats, flushing, and fans. The floorboards groaned with every step, and the footsteps sounded like concrete boots. A dog yelped from 11:30 PM until 2 AM and wouldn’t stop. The room was clean, but it looked and felt dirty because it badly needs renovation. It was tiny, with barely room to walk around the bed, and the bathroom had only a half sink. The scarred toilet lid and seat should be easy to replace. The carpet was dingy, there were dents and scratches everywhere, and a wall had visible patches. The windows leaked and need replacing. The toiletries had such a bad perfume that I used my own, though the tub area was nicely tiled. The whole hotel looks dingy and needs a serious facelift. The one bright spot was a beautiful stone, wood-burning fireplace that stretched across a wall. This is not a 4.4 place.

We didn’t stay overnight, just visited family who were staying there. The indoor hot tub was worth every penny, and kids of all ages had a blast. The outdoor pool was heated, too. We liked sitting by the fireplace and talking, and there’s a bar downstairs in a nice spot. Rustic and charming describe the place well.
