Quality Inn Kingsport South

The bed was comfortable, and the staff member who checked us in late at night was friendly. We were traveling at the last minute, though, and the room we first got had such a strong urine and other odor when we opened the door that there was no way we'd sleep there. We had booked online because it was cheaper after calling and getting helpful service, and the rate was reasonable. There weren't many other choices nearby because it was so late and places were booked, so we took a room across the hall. It needs updating and wasn't very clean either. The hotel overall isn't very clean, and some rooms smell bad. If I hadn't been desperate, I probably would have gone somewhere else, and I doubt I'll stay again. Maybe the second floor is cleaner and more updated, but I don't know.

The room hadn't been cleaned properly, and there was stuff left behind by whoever stayed before us. The shower didn't work, there were holes in the walls with sloppy patch jobs, and the hall carpet was torn. Towels had stains, the ceiling paint was peeling, and a light fixture fell out of the ceiling. Breakfast was nasty and cold, and the coffee was cold at 6:30 in the morning. The place just wasn't clean.

The hotel felt old and run down, and the owner really needs to put money into repairs. Staff could use some kind of professional uniform, too. Breakfast was a letdown: the juice machine was out, and they didn't offer anything else instead. I'd spend a little more and stay next door.

The staff and breakfast were both great, and the price was a bit high, though I expected that. What pulled my score down was the strong mint and eucalyptus smell mixed with what seemed like mold in our room, and there appeared to be mold on the shower curtain. Someone in the room above us stomped around a lot, but that's not the hotel's fault.
