The ladies at the hotel were friendly, and the bright light over the mirror was surprisingly handy for doing my makeup. Breakfast was free, with cereal, fruit, bread, juice, and waffles, but nothing cooked. Those were about the only bright spots. The place has no real soundproofing between rooms, and train and traffic noise carry right in. It also smells of mold and weed, with roaches on the hallway walls and in the room. Stains covered the linens, towels, carpet, walls, and just about everything else. The carpet was in awful shape, and the paint, general maintenance, and replacements all need serious attention. It needs a full renovation, not just a few repairs. The desk lamp flickered with the slightest movement, and the lamp beside the bed had nowhere to plug in, so only one lamp worked. The man at check-in barely spoke, and when he did, he was so quiet I could hardly understand him. It’s odd given the name, but there’s clearly little attention to detail or quality standards. Some renovation work seems to be happening, though it’s nowhere near what I’ve seen at other hotels, even during renovations. I travel for work every week and stay in a different hotel each time. I didn’t expect much from this one, but I wasn’t prepared for how filthy and disgusting it was. If I need to be in Kingstree again, I’ll stay out of town and commute 30-60 minutes so I can feel safe and healthy.

The first-floor room we were shown smelled overwhelmingly of mold. The clerk came to check and offered another room in the hotel, but that one smelled of mold too. I’m extremely allergic to mold, so my cousin and I asked for a full refund and a receipt. We were told the refund would take about three business days, but we weren’t given a receipt. We’d driven nine hours to SC for a death in the family and arrived on September 29, 2025, at 1610 N. Longstreet, Kingstree, SC. The room was $254.76 for three nights. Its gray carpet was worn and dirty, one lampshade was stained, and the other lamp had no bulbs. The hallway smelled too. There was a good-sized chip out of the room door, and the luggage rack was broken, with one side coming off when pulled. We were told it would be fixed. The refund I received was $173.26, not the full $254.76, leaving a difference of $81.50. The filthy condition wasn’t our fault, and we had no choice but to leave. We then had to find another hotel during Tropical storm Imelda, which later became a hurricane. It was so stressful. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. The website photos of this particular place aren’t accurate. It badly needs some tender-loving-care. Please see my photos.

We left after about 30 minutes because the odor and flies in the room, plus the loud train tracks right beside the hotel, made us feel neither comfortable nor safe. The hotel looked nothing like the online photos. When my son and I arrived, it seemed deserted enough that we wondered if we had the wrong place, so we compared the pool and window photos to make sure. There were only two cars in the lot, one belonging to the staff member at the desk. The empty lot gave us an unsettling feeling, and I wish we’d trusted our instincts and left before checking in, even though I’d booked online. The front desk clerk was very kind, and I feel bad writing this, but I need to be honest. When we told her we were checking out to find another hotel, she asked if it was because of “all the Black people in the area.” That was completely inappropriate and deeply offensive. It had nothing to do with why we were leaving. I asked for a refund. She returned the second night’s charge but said the online booking policy meant she couldn’t refund the first night, even though we hadn’t used the room and had only been there about half an hour. With just two cars in the lot, I didn’t buy the claim that they’d held the room and lost revenue when we left. I didn’t argue further; we just wanted to get out and move on. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Manning instead and had a much better experience. I wouldn’t recommend this location. Lesson learned.

Peeling paint and stains were everywhere. The room smelled like old water or mold, and the door connecting it to another room was broken. When I checked it, it came off its hinges, and the lock didn’t work. Not reassuring. The coffee pot was broken too, and the TV wouldn’t work.

The room smelled awful, and the dirt was hard to miss. There were big dried urine spots on the toilet seat, the tub was filthy, and the bed looked like someone had just gotten out of it. The furniture was broken and rusty 😬😷😱😠.
