Rodeway Inn

The room itself was clean, and the cleaning lady was kind and helpful. She was the bright spot and deserves a raise. But the room was above long-term tenants, the lighting was poor, and several outlets didn’t work. I booked nearly two months ahead for a reunion, and the photos didn’t show how poorly maintained the property was. The landscaping, paint, and pool were all in bad shape. Under those conditions, I won’t stay there again.

I wish I’d taken pictures, but take this as your warning: do not stay here. The room reeked of cigarette smoke, and even our clothes still smelled when we got home. The bedspread had cigarette burns, the mattress was awful and sagged toward the middle, and the lighting was terrible. Outlets didn’t work, and the stairs to the second floor were in disrepair and dangerous. There were long-term residents mixed in with weekend guests. The parking lot had very few cars all weekend, yet when we checked in Friday afternoon we were told there were no downstairs rooms. I believe that was a lie. The online photos didn’t match the motel at all. This place is horrible, and the rooms are disgusting.

The outside already had us concerned, and the stairs to the second floor were dangerous. The top edge, the landing, and one step were loose. Inside, the room looked recently renovated, but stains were showing through the paint. I couldn’t tell what the red spots were and hoped they weren’t blood, as shown in the photos. Plastic was still covering the mattress. There was basically no seal at the bottom of the door, so light got in, and who knows what else at night. The curtains didn’t block the light much either. The bright parking lot lights were probably the room’s only redeeming feature. There was space for a clothes bar but no bar to hang anything on. I also forgot to take a photo of the huge spiderweb in the room.

For the price, you get musty rooms, dirty floors and walls, grimy sheets and bathroom, bugs, and no pool. The hotel didn’t look like the photos, the area felt rough, and construction nearby made it a little hard to reach depending on which direction you were driving from. There were also guests who seemed to live there. As a woman, I wouldn’t want to be alone here, and it didn’t feel safe. The front desk told us to smoke with the door open, even though we wanted a non-smoking room. She said she’d kick us out if we tampered with the smoke detectors and charge us $40 if we smoked with the door closed. It was a strange smoking policy: just leave the door open. The smell made it seem like people did that a lot. Both of our keys barely worked. We left water for some stray cats in the parking lot, and it was gone when we came back. I assume staff took it. The staff were nicer at checkout, maybe because we hadn’t taken apart the smoke detector. The front desk employee said she had sensors and would know, which was a little creepy. I’d only stay here if I absolutely had to.
