Calypso Cay by Capital Vacations

The rooms are spacious, with a full kitchen and laundry, and the pools have slides and a splash area the kids enjoyed. It was affordable enough for our family to spend ten days there, and an easy drive to Disney and Universal. Sleep was a real problem. People ran and yelled in the halls until 2 a.m., the walls carried every footstep and toilet flush, and quiet hours didn't seem to mean much. We tried calling the front desk for security, but nobody answered. The resort also isn't gated, and I wasn't comfortable with the surrounding location. The outdoor grilling areas were repeatedly littered with old beer bottles and trash, the garbage bins overflowed, and our tub's jets had mold. Wristbands are supposed to be needed for the pools across the street, but nobody checked, so on weekends they were packed with people who weren't hotel guests. We knew there'd be construction when we booked, but only at check-in did we learn the main pool was drained for work. Its reopening was delayed, too. Other pools were available, but it would've been good to know the main one would be closed. The advertised zipline park was also closed while we were there for no clear reason. If that's important to you, call ahead to check it's open.

I liked that, even though it's a timeshare, they didn't pester us to go on tours. I'd recently enjoyed another property in the Capital Vacations group, so I expected this one to be just as nice. I came for a short break and some peace from home. The unit was nice, with lots of good amenities and food choices.

The facilities were nice, but what really made our stay unforgettable was the team at Calypso Cay Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. Everyone was friendly, professional, and quick to help, always with a smile. They took care of requests promptly and paid close attention to keeping things in good shape. The staff are a real strength of the resort, and I highly recommend it for their kindness and service.

I wanted to like this place since I'm local and enjoy a weekend getaway, but the noise made it impossible to relax. A leaf blower started outside at 6:45 in the morning, then the next-door room blasted music that kept us up until 2 a.m. The front desk said quiet hours began at 10 p.m. and that maintenance would ask them to turn it down, but apparently nobody did. The following morning, maintenance was working loudly outside again before 7. At check-in, we were sent to a side room for the parking pass, where they asked if we had a debit or credit card and pushed a timeshare presentation. My husband had to ask for the pass several times. Our room wasn't very clean either: the tub was dirty and dishes were still dirty in the dishwasher. Things happen, but the persistent noise was too much. If you want a quiet, relaxing stay, I'd look elsewhere.
