The Coho cabin was comfortable, with lovely ocean views, though photos really can’t capture the place. We spent our downtime at the lodge watching whales, otters, and bald eagles go by, and fishing was a blast too. Mark and Beth made our family feel welcome even with three kids under six, and they were thoughtful and flexible with us. Our kids loved hiking, kayaking, and exploring the island. Seeing a whale up close was the kind of moment I think they’ll remember for a long time. Chef Brenda made delicious food and kindly arranged a cooking class for the girls. Alyssa and Cindy were always helpful and sweet, and the kids adored them. It was a magical family trip, and the children are already telling everyone about Alaska and pretending their dolls are headed there. My one regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

We got home with a freezer full of fish and a pile of great memories after a fantastic week with Beth and Mark. The scenery, meals, accommodations, and service all gave us the real Alaska experience we’d hoped for. Their hospitality made the trip so enjoyable for me and my boys. I’d happily come back.

Three days after leaving Mark, Beth, and Eagle's Wings Wilderness Lodge, my wife and I are still talking about the week. The memories, friendships, and time together feel like the kind you keep for life. The whole place has a special, almost magical feel, with wilderness all around and hardly anything nearby. We saw lots of otters, sealions, and whales, and on a day off we drove 12 miles along a gravel road to watch bears catching salmon. It’s remote and rustic, just as the name suggests, but the stay is full service, from fishing and meals to the cabins. If you want a corporate-style trip, this isn’t that. Mark and Beth Farrar own the lodge and captain the boats, and they take only 8 guests each week. The service is personal, and we felt like family from the moment we arrived. My wife was on her first Alaska trip, and now she can’t stop talking about coming back. She caught her first salmon, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish. We fished for only 2 days but still took home close to 100 pounds of neatly packed fillets. Mark and Beth were fun skippers, and we caught plenty. Alyssa was our deckhand, lodge assistant, and the person we could turn to for anything. Brenda and Kevin, guest-chefs from the S.Francisco bay area, served wonderful food, including steamed clams, fresh breads, crab casserole, salmon poke, sashimi, and chowder. This is definitely not a place to come if you’re dieting. The lodge and cabins are cozy and comfortable, perfect for reading while the wilderness surrounds you. We’ve run two fishing fleets and a restaurant in Mexico for almost 30 years, and have traveled and fished extensively, so we know service. Mark, Beth, Alyssa, Brenda, and Kevin took great care of us and the other guests. We feel lucky to have had this experience and can’t wait to return. We just hope the place doesn’t get so popular that there’s no room for us next time. Jonathan and Jill Roldan Tailhunter Sportfishing La Paz, Baja, Mexico

For sport fishing in southeast Alaska, Eagles Wings is the best attraction.
