The outdoor bar area was a lovely place to spend time, and the restaurant was surprisingly high quality. The Starbucks in the lobby was one of the most efficient I’ve visited, and I was really surprised it opens at 5:30 a.m. and stays open until 4 p.m. or later most days. Housekeeping and the rooms were excellent, and the staff were superb. It’s a compact Hilton in a great downtown spot, just off lively Gay Street and Market Square, and a block from the Convention Center. I have nothing negative to say and would absolutely return.

The bathrooms are small, though renovated. The staff were great, and it’s a nice hotel with a convenient covered walkway to the convention center. I still don’t get why there’s always just one luggage rack. A second one would be useful.

David B.at the front desk deserves a mention. He was exemplary, going out of his way to make check-in smooth, and was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing stay. The location is the hotel’s real strength: right by Market Square, with easy access to downtown shops and attractions. The building feels like a late-’90s relic. “Dilapidated” may be too strong, but the wood-themed decor and cramped rooms are well past their prime and don’t match the premium rates. The bathroom layout is bafflingly tight, with so little room that you have to maneuver around the fixtures just to shut the door. Privacy is poor for a high-rise. The in-window AC units and badly insulated doors are a problem, and you can see into the hallway. The walls are paper-thin, so conversations, TV shows, and intimate moments are all audible. Somehow you can hear every whisper from a neighbor, yet someone may give you a rude knock at your door if your own TV volume competes with the lack of soundproofing. The place has potential, but I’d find it hard to return without a full modern renovation.

For getting around downtown Knoxville on foot, the location is excellent, with lots of restaurants and things to do nearby. The city is fun, and the Hilton is convenient. The building itself feels aged and a little dilapidated inside, much like other Hiltons we’ve stayed in. It seems to coast on its name and good location while the property slowly wears down. We had a leak that soaked the couch, as shown in the photos. Fixtures were coming off the walls, the sink fittings were very loose, and the shower head was broken. Water cost $3, and the only place to refill a bottle was the gym on the third floor, where the water was lukewarm. The bed was far too soft for me, so I sank into it, while the overstuffed pillows propped me up as if I were folding in half. That’s personal preference, but I’d like normal-sized pillows with that bed. If walking around downtown is the priority, this place works well. If you don’t mind driving or paying a bit more, Airbnb is a strong option.

JD took time during his lunch break to show me around, explain the history behind the new build, and help coordinate the setup. I was really impressed with his help, the staff, the venue, and the location during my work trip to this beautiful hotel. If you’re after a bit of luxury on a somewhat limited budget, I recommend it.
