Marriott Knoxville Downtown

On 02/24/2026, I asked for an extra hour to check out at noon, though checkout was listed as 11 AM. With top-tier Marriott status and more than 3,000 stays over 25 years, I’m guaranteed a 4 PM checkout. The phone clerk immediately said no without checking my status or asking if she could help another way. She said I had to be on a list, and that it was full. The clerk and manager later both said that because the hotel is a designated conference center, late checkout is available by list only and status doesn’t matter here. There’s no sign or reservation information identifying it as a conference center or explaining that policy. I’ve never been refused late checkout in all these years. Neither the clerk nor manager was helpful or polite. I won’t return. This wasted my time and money.

We asked for a room overlooking the Golden Planet and got a beautiful one. The welcoming, cozy atmosphere and great staff made this another easy choice for us. We stop at the Marriot Downtown every time we need to break up the drive from Kentucky to North Carolina. Adriana and Chanaya greeted us, and Chanaya let my son choose a gift from the treasure box. Erle drove us on the complimentary shuttle and was really friendly and kind.

The full window view was lovely, and the room was very clean. I was in town for a forum and had a great stay. Parking myself was easy, and Danny answered all my questions and even helped me get out of the garage when I’d forgotten my key. Check-in was quick, the staff were pleasant, and the on-site restaurant had tasty food with fast service. I’d stay here again next time I’m in Knoxville.

The bar was nice, with polite service and a good range of drinks and food. A little expensive, but not too bad. Getting into our room was a rough start. The website said to request early check-in 24 hours ahead, so we did, knowing we’d be driving seven hours with our four-year-old after an early departure. At the hotel, we were told the room wasn’t ready and check-in was normally at 4:00. When I pointed out our request, the employee said early check-in couldn’t be guaranteed because it’s a conventional hotel. That contradicts what the website said. Now we’re waiting in the lobby with our Pre-K kid, who can’t sit still, especially after that long drive. Very bad first impression. More to follow as the night goes on.
