Americinn Hotel La Crosse - Riverfront

The indoor water park was a big hit, especially with families with little kids, and having dining onsite was convenient. It's in a great location with a fun, family-friendly feel. The one drawback was having no elevator, which made getting around with kids and a stroller challenging.

The small beach nearby was nice. That was the only good thing about this stay. I've traveled a lot, and this was one of my worst hotel experiences. After enjoying the AmericInn in Eau Claire, I expected the La Crosse one to be similar. I was wrong. The first room was disgusting from the moment I opened the door. The moldy, musty smell was so strong it made my eyes water. There were stains on the walls and carpet, a black bug on the floor, a cracked ceiling that leaked, and a chair soaked from the leak. I rarely complain, but this was beyond gross. At the desk, staff barely listened, saying they'd send someone to look and giving me another key. The second room was still musty, with hair across the bathroom floor, holes in the sheets, fake rhinestones scattered on the carpet, and a door that needed to be body-slammed shut. I tried to get through the night, buying Febreze, a blanket, and a pillow cover at the store. It didn't help. I had to spray Febreze every hour just to breathe, and gave up on sleeping after six hours. Breakfast was a joke: heat-up sandwiches, limited to one per person, some toast, expired muffins, pancakes, and four kinds of cereal. I'd have been better off sleeping in my car and getting breakfast at Kwik Trip. At least it would've been edible, and I'd still be $80+ ahead. Save your money. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, even as a last resort.

We needed somewhere quiet, and this hotel worked for us: the room was clean and the staff were kind. It feels worn and could use quite a few updates. There aren't extra amenities. They have Pepsi machines throughout, not Coke.

The outdoor tiki bar by the river was a plus, and the indoor pool area is nice for kids, though there's no deep end. Breakfast is very limited. There was a desk notice saying updates are scheduled for 2026, and the hotel and rooms feel costly for their current condition. It could be a nicer option once the rooms, and maybe the pool area, are updated.
