Candlewood Suites La Porte by IHG

I planned to stay a week for work but left after two days. The rooms had a strange smell that I'm pretty sure was mold, and there were roaches. The staff were rude and unprofessional, especially housekeeping. I saw an older Mexican woman who worked as a housekeeper scream and swear at the front desk girl in front of guests. I've stayed at Candlewood Suites in the cities where I work, but I won't return to the LaPorte one. It's the worst customer service I've experienced. Hopefully they get a friendlier, more professional staff.

The staff were pleasant enough, and the place was a bit dated, but I could have overlooked that. The smell in our room was unbearable, though. Mold and mildew were very strong, and whatever they used to cover it was so heavy it felt like I could taste it. After three hours in the room, we had headaches and sore throats. There was also very little ventilation. At checkout, we were told they would see what they could do, but that we would most likely still be charged for the night.

The little store on site is a nice touch, and the prices there are budget friendly. The hotel was quiet and peaceful compared with others I've stayed in, and everything was very clean. The staff were amazing, helpful, and room service was top tier. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere safe, quiet, clean, and accommodating.

It's pet friendly, which is a plus, and the service was great. The rooms were clean, but there was a smell in both the rooms and hallways. We think it may be mold since you can see it in the AC. They need to clean all the AC units, and I think that would get rid of the smell. There's no breakfast, and the place is a bit outdated. It might work for traveling workers, but I wouldn't choose it for a family vacation.
