Best Western Plus Zion West Hotel

We were there from 12/26-12/28, and although our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, the staff were helpful. It was ready about 10 minutes after check-in, probably because it was a busy weekend with late checkouts. Everything in the clean, stocked room worked, including the microwave and fridge. Breakfast came with the stay and offered quite a bit: bacon, potatoes, eggs, bagels, cereal, fruit, yogurt, waffles, coffee, juice and tea. This was my second Best Western stay, and this location was good too. It’s around 30 minutes from Zion’s main entrance and 15-20 from Kolob. I’d recommend it if you want a budget-friendly hotel that still has what you need.

The location was excellent, and we had a great two-night trip. Breakfast was also great, and the breakfast staff were warm and friendly. But after being out at Zion all day, we came back to a messy room because housekeeping hadn’t come. We hadn’t seen any notice about that policy, or we would’ve requested service. The door handle was faulty from check-in, and we were locked out for about 30 minutes. They eventually got us in, but said maintenance would be called the next morning. It was hard to sleep knowing the handle still wasn’t fixed.

The hotel was clean and quiet, and the location worked well for visiting Zion. The problem was how poorly they handled the internet outage. We needed internet to plan the rest of our vacation, so I had to use my phone hotspot instead. I called the lobby and was told the service was down and they were working on it. When I asked for a discount, the staff member said only the manager could approve one. He was off duty, but she said she’d have him call. I repeated that I wanted to speak with him when I checked out. I’m still waiting.

The second night, after we’d gone to the hot tub, our key wouldn’t let us back into the room. The desk staff said it was a system problem and we had to wait for the computer to reboot. We stood in the lobby for 15 minutes, cold and wet, and there didn’t seem to be any other way for staff to get us in. It was very frustrating, and we won’t stay or recommend the hotel again. We’d already had trouble getting into the room at check-in because the door didn’t work. The front desk woman was kind and tried to help. A maintenance man came and seemed aggressive while trying the door, as if we hadn’t tried it ourselves, but couldn’t open it either. We were told to wait for repairs since no other rooms were available. She said she’d call if it was fixed early, but no call came, so we eventually just tried our key again.
