VET'S BEAWARE: there are a lot of new policy changes here. Hoptel guests now need a credit card on file, and you have to leave the room before your scheduled appointment time. Kayla has only been on the job for two weeks and is already a real asset to the staff. She’s a sweetheart.

*UPDATE* Since my stay on 01 Dec 2025, I’ve been put on the “Do not rent list,” which leaves me with no way to book a room in Lake City FL as a VA patient. Be warned, if you stay here and complain, you may be retaliated against and barred from renting again. It’s a shame a business would respond this way to a simple misunderstanding. V/R Chris ALCON, I checked in through Hoptel w/ the VA at 1505 on 01 Dec 2025. The front desk clerk greeted us kindly, and everything seemed fine until the next morning. I went to the desk to ask for a late checkout. Tiana said she’d ask her manager, then GM Sabrina Redish stepped in abruptly and said VA patients had to check out by their appointment time or face a $100 fee. I told her I’d been coming here for 5 years and had never heard of that rule. My appointment was at 0800, and this happened at 0745, with my wife still asleep and our belongings scattered around the room. I tried to explain that nobody had told us at check-in. The GM said staff were trained to explain the rule to all VA patients, but we hadn’t been told. I followed up with the VA patient advocate to make sure the issue was escalated. I felt embarrassed and ridiculed by the GM. Customers shouldn’t be treated this way. I strongly recommend customer service retraining for GM Sebrina Redish. VA patients coming here should know the policy is being strictly enforced before planning a trip. V/R Chris

The front desk ladies were super nice and helpful, but everything else about our two nights was upsetting. We found a roach in the restroom the first night, and a worker we saw smoking outside smelled strongly of marijuana as she passed. Housekeepers never came to service our room. When we asked one in the hallway for fresh towels and for the trash to be emptied, she also reeked of marijuana. Later, we returned to find our bedroom door open and unlocked, even though we had locked it. Anyone could have walked in and taken something. I want the cameras checked and answers by tomorrow about who opened the door. The manager didn’t want to take responsibility and didn’t even want to come in to address it. When we finally got her there, she still wouldn’t pull up the cameras. She looked very unprofessional and was aggressive and disrespectful. We got no compensation for any of it. I’m extremely disappointed with the quality of this “Best Western Plus” hotel. I’ve attached pictures of the roach.

We had planned three nights, but left after one. When we checked out, staff refused to print a receipt and said they’d email it. I still haven’t received it, and the app continues to show the reservation as active. The location right off I-75 is the one good thing. Avoid a front room, though, because you hear every vehicle on the interstate. The mattresses are very firm, which may suit some people, but the pillows feel like hard balloons and don’t give at all. Staff were hit or miss. The guy they hired to shampoo the carpets was nicer than most of the staff.
