When I was working, I traveled heavily for business for about 4 years, flying and staying in all 49 states. I was always on a big corporate travel budget and stayed at the best places. I had GOLD status and up with all the major chains, and was Platinum with Planet Hollywood in Vegas, for example. Back then, Super 8 wasn’t even on my radar. Now I’m retired and paying my own way, so I watch expenses. I picked Havasu Super 8 based on the website photos and price, expecting the photos might not tell the whole story and the price would. Nope, I was blown away. The pictures are accurate, and the place is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, as clean as the big chains around the country that cost five times as much. The pool and hot tubs were perfect, and both rooms I had were perfect too. The TV and channel selection were awesome. The ice and vending machines were clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It’s owner-operated, and that means a lot. The bed, mattress, and sheets were perfect; the bathroom was clean, and the towels were the best. I love this place. It’ll be my only hotel in Mohave County. Not kidding!

We found a roach on each of the three days we stayed. I should have left earlier, but I was trying not to be a complainer. On our last morning, I saw a bedbug scurrying across the bed I’d been sleeping in. I shrieked before smashing it. I’ve attached photos of the bedbug, one of the three roaches we managed to catch and kill, and some of the room’s condition when we arrived. We should’ve taken more pictures, but we just needed to get out quickly. My family member and I both had 5 and 12 hour drives home, and we now had to bag and treat our luggage too. The room was filthy, the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever been to. When we complained at the front desk that we’d have to take extra steps to make sure we didn’t bring any bugs home, it seemed like they knew about the problems. We were told we’d need to send proof or pictures if we wanted a refund, and call the next day to speak with management because the front desk couldn’t do anything. I didn’t find bedbugs in the mattress seams, but after looking up how to check, I realized I hadn’t thought to inspect the headboards. Check your room. Read the bad reviews and believe them. Avoid this place at all costs. This isn’t what you want after a 12-hour drive when you just need somewhere to rest.

It was a dream stay for us: budget-friendly, with lakefront views and a nice hot tub. Mario at the front desk was amazing. He helped us get settled with the kids, made us feel welcome, and pointed us toward good places to eat. He treated us like family.

There was a cockroach crawling across one of the beds, and the room was dirty and poorly maintained. The front desk employee understood why we didn’t want to stay and offered a refund. He couldn’t issue it, though, because we’d booked through a third-party site, and they wouldn’t refund us either. If bugs are a dealbreaker for you, I’d avoid this hotel.

My fiancée stayed in a room infested with BED BUGS. She complained to staff and left right away, but the staff member didn’t seem to care much. Be cautious if you’re thinking of staying here.
