House on the River

The location is good, though trains pass several times a day. The house is very worn and needs a lot of repairs, and the listing pictures don’t match what’s there. The outdoor kitchen at the back doesn’t work, and the chairs are torn up. The hot tub is out by itself in the front yard, overlooking the tracks and river, rather than on a deck beside the kitchen.

PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY. This is a beautiful location, but the lodge is falling apart and needs repairs. The owners should update the listing pictures and lower the price significantly until they make the necessary fixes. Some are cheap and easy, so there’s no excuse for overlooking them. Other negative reviews describe the same problems, and the hosts seemed to shrug off responsibility or blame us. Here’s what we found. Two of the “bedrooms” are on a storm porch with no windows, only plastic-covered screens, and no real door. That left five beds unusable for us, and my mom said the outlets in those rooms didn’t work either. The power was out for a long time one night, but there were no flashlights or candles in the house. The place wasn’t clean. There were crumbs in the couches, a half-drunk water bottle under a table, band-aid wrappers on a counter, and spiders and webs in the guest bathroom. The outdoor kitchen looked nothing like the pictures. Its chairs weren’t red anymore and were faded and falling apart. The grill was moldy and wouldn’t light. My husband spent an hour trying to clean it, and should be paid for that. We’d driven into town to buy charcoal for the small grill, only to find one of its legs was falling off. Inside, the cabinet door labeled bowls had a broken top hinge and nearly fell on my mother’s head. The master bathroom toilet seat was cracked and pinched. There was graffiti on the dining room walls, including vulgar hand-drawn pictures. The hot tub had no deck around it, and its cover was ripped and wouldn’t stay on securely. The fireplace was broken, and the pool table was broken and unplayable.

We’ve been coming back with friends for our spring fishing trip for years, and it’s always something I look forward to. The location is great, the place is well appointed and maintained, and the owners are attentive. Highly recommend.

We love coming back every year. The hosts are the best, and there’s room for all our friends to sleep. The house has everything we need and then some. Highly recommend staying here.
