Lake Shasta Lodge

The pictures in the ad make the room look like a nice 3-star place, but in person it barely feels like 1 star. The decor is old and dingy, and the furniture is scratched up, like it came from a flea market. I booked two nights and left the same night I checked in. When I raised it with the manager, they said room #2 was old and dinghy, and that the photos were of room#1. But several reviews say even that room is bad. Make sure you read all the negative reviews. They match my experience. The advertising feels deceptive, and I suspect someone may also be writing positive reviews for the hotel.

The sheets and towels were clean. That was about the only upside. I don’t know how they got a 4.2 rating. Our toilet wobbled from side to side, the baseboards were rotted, and there were no amenities. It seems like they’re trying to make this a destination, but they’ve got a long way to go. If you want a nice room at a reasonable cost, stay in Redding or Obrien.

The lady at the counter was really friendly and personable. They also went out of their way to help us, including a last-minute late-night check-in with our dog. I’d make a detour to come back if I’m in the area and need to stop overnight. Thanks very much.

The room was fine at first, but then we found one bed had already been slept in. Please clean the sheets. This was Room 8. The TV didn’t work, and the door bolt wouldn’t latch. It needs maintenance. There was nobody in the office at 10am.
