The trail is easy to find, and the view at the top is gorgeous. There were quite a few people, so expect to share the spot. It’s a quick, scenic walk when you want a little time in nature. Getting up the rocky slope is fairly easy, though coming back down felt a bit scary. Take it slowly and it’s manageable.
Parking by the tunnel is free and close to the trail, though there isn’t much of it. Comfy shoes and some water are a good idea. The walk takes around 10-15 minutes, and the top opens up to a full view around Lake Tahoe, mountains and all. It gets windy up there, but the place still feels peaceful, and at sunset the sky can turn gold and pink. I shared a short video and a few photos because the view is hard to believe. It’s an easy little adventure and one of my favorite hikes around Tahoe.
The rock face is manageable for someone with moderate hiking experience, while less experienced hikers may want to take their time on it. The incline before reaching the rock is moderate, and the hike itself is simple and quick. It’s absolutely worth doing, and I think everyone can manage it.
We had a lot of fun exploring, even though we wandered around without finding the cave above one of the tunnels we’d driven through. We followed all the trails, but none took us there. As we roamed around, we imagined bobcats and other scary cats watching us. I’d like to go back and explore farther, though I think something needs to happen first.
I got lucky with a weekday visit because the parking lot is pretty small. The view is spectacular, and even stopping near the bottom of this short hike gave me nice scenery. I only made it halfway up since the climb can be intimidating if you’re afraid of heights, but that was enough for me to enjoy the view.
