We’d spent the day on the mountain and arrived for our 4 PM reservation, only to be sent from the saloon to the general store to collect the keys. When we got there, they couldn’t find them and suggested housekeeping might have left them inside the cabin. Staff also warned us not to use our assigned parking spot because the car could get stuck in the snow, but then couldn’t tell us where it was safe to park. The cabin itself was dirty, with an unmade bed and food left on the counter. There was also a bad smell, which we later found out was from a gas leak. They offered us another cabin, but after the disorganization and the parking concern, we decided to drive the four hours home, even after a full day on the mountain. We tried to get our money back because we hadn’t received the cabin we paid for. The resort never refunded us. We eventually got a refund on 2/25 through the separate travel insurance we’d purchased. Poor service from the resort, though at least the money came back. In response to the owner: there was a big storm Monday through Thursday that week, but Friday and Saturday were clear blue-sky days, and Saturday was when we arrived. I understand a storm can make property upkeep busy, but it doesn’t excuse leaving a cabin unprepared for guests.

We felt at home as soon as we arrived at our cabin in Lakeshore, California. The hosts were kind and very accommodating, and the whole stay was such a lovely experience. I’d recommend it to anyone after a cozy, welcoming getaway.

My kids had a great time playing outside in the forest-like surroundings, and the ski lodge is really close by. Everyone was helpful, and the service was some of the best I’ve had. A really great stay.

I arrived at 6:15 PM with a reservation, but the place had closed early even though they had my arrival on the books. I drove to the cabin thinking they might have left the keys there. It took half an hour to find it in the dark, since there were no lights on the property and the cabin numbers weren’t lit. The place looked like an old shanty town. I ended up driving 40 minutes back to Shaver Lake to find somewhere else to stay. When Lakeshore management finally called back, they said it was my fault for checking in after hours, despite the reservation confirmation saying check-in was available until 10 PM. In more than 20 years of travel, this was one of the worst-managed hotels I’ve seen. Don’t waste your time or money here. There are much better places nearby.

The new general store is a nice addition, and the Saloon is a blast once the sun goes down. We also had a great time sailing with the Fresno Yacht Club and spending time at Lakeshore. The food and service were spot on. Thanks to the new owners for bringing this place back to life!
