Hampton Inn & Suites Lamar

The setting was beautiful, and even though the hotel is near the freeway, it's far enough back that there wasn't much noise. That made for a restful night on my recent trip from New Jersey to Illinois. Justin was warm, welcoming, and professional at check-in. I've stayed in lots of hotels along this route over the years, and this was one of the most professional, well-run places I've come across. I wish more hotels operated this way. My only suggestion is to gently remind families not to gather in the hallways, since noise carries into the rooms. Otherwise, it was a wonderful one-night stay, and I'd absolutely return. Highly recommend.

The room had two queen beds, in-room coffee, and a view of the mountain ridge. I paid $136 a night total. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the free breakfast was very good, with eggs, meat, and waffles in an attractive room. But the pool was closed during my January 2026 stay, the room heater was hard to control and needed the "emergency heat" setting, and the third-floor ice machine was extremely loud. I can't call it good value for the money.

Our stay at the Hampton was what we've come to expect, except for the shower water in the morning. It wasn't cold, but it never even got warm. The temperature had been normal the evening before.

We had to stay outside State College because two big sporting events were happening on campus, so we drove about 30 minutes to this hotel. It's a little outside town, but the drive was worth it. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and checked in with us about ten minutes after we reached our room to ask if it was satisfactory or if we needed anything. The room was spacious, recently updated, and very clean. I'd definitely stay here again.
