Holiday Inn Express Lapeer by IHG

I'm paying about $800 a week to stay here while I wait for my soon-to-be-ex husband to move out of my house. I'm dealing with a divorce from a narcissistic husband, work-related trauma, PTSD, and moderate to high anxiety with panic attacks. Smoking is one of my coping mechanisms, and my physician has told me not to try quitting given what my life has been like. I've stayed at Marriott hotels before, but there isn't one in my area. I've paid the $250 room smoking fine more than once without a problem, and I only smoke in the bathroom and use air freshener. When management staff member Kirk came to my door to ask about it, which had never happened before, I admitted it and agreed to pay the fine. That wasn't enough for him. He called the police, who came to my room and pounded on the door while I was getting ready to pick up my kids from school. I can't explain why I smoke without crying. Kirk, I hope you appreciate this review as much as I felt the way you treated me today. I just paid another $800 to stay until the day after Christmas, but I'm willing to walk away and waste that money rather than be treated this way. I won't be staying much longer.

The hotel was very clean and organized. While a group was setting up in the conference room, employees checked in from time to time to see if they needed anything. I learned it was a service dog group, and the housekeeper said they like staying in Lapeer, especially because it's close to I 69. I don't like that none of the hotels are on a main road.

The bathroom had missing tiles around the tub, with caulk applied haphazardly, and the whirlpool tub itself had a hole filled with caulk. There were big oil marks on the carpet, and the room looked dirty. The lighting was so dim that I wondered how anyone could clean it properly. The toilet kept running, then stopped flushing. We visit family from out of state often and usually stay here because it's convenient, but after this experience I don't know if we'll come back. At $150 a night, I expected better than a $60 room at Super 8. Disappointed doesn't begin to cover it.

The beds were comfy, and both the room and bathroom were clean. Staff were friendly, and breakfast had a good variety of food. We had a really good stay and would definitely come back.
