The Clocktower Hotel Latham - North Albany, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The rooms are nothing fancy, which is about what I’d expect from a budget hotel, but they’ve been a good size, clean, and well stocked whenever we’ve stayed. There’s continental breakfast every day, plus fresh coffee and water in the lobby around the clock. We’ve been back a few times and have been happy enough with the accommodations. It’s on the main strip, close to plenty of shopping and places to eat, and not far from the major parkways if you’re heading into Albany proper. During our October '24 stay, there was quite a bit of construction. I believe they’re upgrading this location for a name change.

The room was clean, and the cleaning staff were kind and helpful. The front desk staff were nice too, especially the tall young guy, who was very helpful. Breakfast was a real highlight. The kitchen team worked hard to keep the dining area clean and stocked, and there were plenty of choices for meat eaters, people who avoid pork, and people who don’t eat meat. The guy with the dreads from the breakfast staff was very helpful, and the woman working there was so friendly and had a great personality for dealing with people. I live nearby, but I had a great stay and will definitely tell everyone I know to stay here.

The tub was clogged, and it took a while for the water to drain. The beds were uncomfortable, with flat pillows, and the basic bedroom looked very dated. On top of that, the lobby and first floor smelled like an aquarium or sewage. We paid far too much for one night here, probably should have paid half. This place needs a lot of help, and I wouldn’t stay again.

We stayed here 2/8/25, and the renovation reviews can be ignored now. The work is over, and the result looks like new construction to me. You’d never guess it had been renovated. The management and all the companies involved did a fantastic job. I’d stay here again without question.
