The Lava Hotel

The private hot springs pool was a highlight. The listing doesn't make it clear, but it's only a very short walk from the motel rooms, and even closer from their other rental units. The room itself was basic and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The pillows, though, really weren't good.

The bed was good, and having several pillow styles to choose from was a plus. But I felt the place was overpriced. Rooms 9, 10, 11, and 12 in the courtyard are in an old concrete block motel building from the 50s. The small bathroom had been renovated, though there was nowhere in the shower to put soap or other products. The furniture and hot tub were old, and we didn't use the tub. The TV was an old smart TV, and there was nowhere to hang clothes. The hot pool was a short walk away, looked worn, and had bugs in the water that needed cleaning out. The fridge made a noise like an aircraft, so I turned it way down to sleep.

We spent the weekend here and were so happy with our stay. It's a real gem, right by downtown, so we could walk outside and be in the middle of everything. All the places we wanted to go were close by, and they were great about answering our questions and requests.

The room was nice and clean, and the location was great, just around the corner from an excellent restaurant called Rogue. But the cafe they advertised on site had apparently closed the day after Labor Day, and there was no internet for the TV. The pool was all men when we went, which felt off-putting for two old ladies. The locals also seemed to resent tourists. I think we'll probably avoid the whole town next time.
