Econo Lodge Lawrence near University

The bathroom floor was the dealbreaker for me: after just five minutes barefoot while brushing my teeth, the bottoms of my feet were brown. Breakfast was supposed to run from 6 to 9, but at 7 there was only a box of Raisin Bran and milk, with the desk saying the “real stuff” would be out by 9. I knew this was a basic motel and wasn't expecting anything fancy. The walls were thin enough that I heard a couple having sex through the night, but the bed was okay and I could live with the ordinary motel experience. We came in ready to be fair and put up with a lot, but guests do choose places partly for the free breakfast, and cleanliness is what separates an acceptable place to sleep from somewhere you end up telling stories about.

I keep coming back to the Econo Lodge in Lawrence,KS because the people there make it feel welcoming and familiar every time. The stay is affordable, while the respect, care, and real enthusiasm from the staff feel priceless. Housekeeping is part of why I return, too. The owner is involved in the motel's day-to-day operations, from what I've seen, and has been willing to help whenever I've spoken with him. The Manager always greets me with a smile and is patient when I mess up my reservation. I highly recommend coming back here.

It’s 1:30am and the noise has been going on pretty much since I arrived: banging and thudding, music and conversations from other rooms, and people running along the balcony outside mine. Management doesn’t seem to do anything to protect or maintain a decent guest experience.

The staff made us feel welcome and looked after, and that’s why we’ll come back. The room was compact but perfectly usable. I don’t know what amenities they have, but the customer service was the best.
