Courtyard by Marriott Layton

When we raised the problems the next morning, the staff questioned us and said they didn't sound right, or that they were easy fixes. If they were easy, why hadn't they been handled before we arrived? We got the impression they mostly dismissed what we'd reported, and the conversation felt accusatory when we left. Our room had beard trimmings on the sink and counter, women's hair on the shower wall, and a clogged sink that filled completely even with brief use. We'd arrived late at night, so we told staff the next morning. We normally choose Marriott for its quality, but this one fell short enough that we won't stay at Marriotts anymore. Very disappointing.

The rooms felt dated, with dim yellowish lighting, and the food was just okay. Still, the beds were clean and comfortable, the shower got nice and hot, and the room was a decent size. The staff were the highlight. Everyone was friendly, efficient, and helpful.

We got charged a smoking fee after the shower steam set off our room's fire alarm. The bathroom had no fan or anything to clear the moisture. We thought the alarm incident was strange, but checked out later and then saw the charge. Management was pretty unhelpful when we tried to explain and sort it out. They'd also changed our booking from a king to two queen beds without telling us. Try another nearby hotel if you don't want to get in trouble for taking a hot shower.

I've stayed here a couple of times on business. The location works well for the freeway, shops, and restaurants, and the gym is decent. Makayla handled check in and my questions really well, and Justin did an outstanding job helping me with a problem I ran into. Staff are friendly, and the amenities meet Marriott standards. Some furniture in the room looks outdated, maybe from the 90s, even though the rest of the room seems to have been updated.
