Dakota Spur Hotel

We came across this lovely place while wandering through the Black Hills, and I’m so glad we stayed. It has its own character, instead of feeling like another chain hotel dropped into a different town. We’ll definitely choose it again on future trips.

Deb, the owner, showed us around and was so sweet. You can tell she really cares about the business. Our room was small, but just right for our one-night outing. The whole place is beautiful, and there’s a coffee bar downstairs. The service made us feel welcome, and Deb seemed to anticipate what we’d need. There were even makeup-removal wipes in the room. 10/10, I’d come back!

Our room slept all eight of us, three adults and five kids, with two queen beds, two twins and a fold-away bed. It also had a fridge and microwave. This is a great rustic hotel in the heart of Lead, just down the road from Deadwood. Downstairs there’s a gaming room with free pool and foosball, plus a piano, keyboard and a breakfast bar in the mornings. We enjoyed the ground-level patio and the second-floor deck at the back for a couple of evening drinks. Private parking is a big plus since street parking can be a nightmare. The on-site management were as friendly as could be. Definitely recommend.

The rooms seemed small at first, but this turned out to be one of the most memorable places we’ve stayed. The managers were great, and breakfast was good. Give it a try if you want a memorable Black Hills experience.
