The breakfast was a letdown: I was told it was great, then found wheat toast and very old juice. The free Wi-Fi didn’t work in my room or even when I followed the unhelpful staff’s advice to try the lobby. The bathroom was dirty, and I found hair all over the bed. Staff seemed to have no idea how their own hotel worked. A bad place to stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
For a staycation, it was okay at $190 a week. There’s a spa and an extra bed to spread out, and the toast bar was good enough in place of continental breakfast. Amenities are pretty minimal. It’s a two-star place.
The price is hard to beat, and the rooms have always been clean when we’ve stayed. The people are really nice too. It’s not the Ritz, but we’ve come back many times.
It’s under new ownership, Blackstone, and rates are now around $120 a night. It’s no longer Palace Express, and it’s no longer $35.
I paid $66 for the room. Clean, helpful staff, and a spa. What a bargain!
