The food has been perfect every time we’ve eaten here, and the menu is great. Bob, the owner, is super friendly, as are the servers and bartender. Stampmill Inn is a charming historic place for dinner or drinks at the classic western bar. To me, it’s the best place to eat in Lead, so make a point of visiting while you’re in the area.

Jessica was an amazing server and made the experience. The food was great too. I only wish my burger had come with lettuce, tomatoes, and sauces, but Jessica got them for me. The staff dress up in old pioneer clothes, which is really cool, and the atmosphere has plenty of stories to it. There’s outside seating, a gentleman who plays music, and it feels very kid and family friendly. I can’t comment on the rooms since I never went upstairs. I gave four stars because you have to climb stairs all the way up. The building is old, with lots of stories behind it. Parking is on the street, though there is a handicap spot. The menu and venue photos are posted to look at.

The food exceeded our expectations both times my parents and I ate here during our stay in Lead. We tried sirloin, linguine nest, onion rings (not sure what they do, but they’re the best around), fish and chips, chicken fried steak, and curry. Bob, the owner, was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and Chris Douglas was impossibly talented. The music was loud enough to enjoy the guitar solos but quiet enough for conversation. Jessica was a friendly, positive server who took our orders accurately and won’t soon be forgotten. The main restaurant entrance has one small step or curb, but it’s pretty accessible. I added five stars for the rooms, though we stayed at the Townhall next door, owned by the same folks. We’ll be back!

Our car died while my husband and I were there for his birthday, so we went back inside to give our portable jumper time to charge. Bob was incredibly kind, and his enthusiasm was infectious. He told us we had family in Lead and should come back often. We felt so loved and welcome.

The atmosphere was really cool, and Jessica was a wonderful server, friendly and kind without hovering. My chicken tomato pesto sandwich was fabulous, with hot, juicy chicken, delicious sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh spinach. The tomato basil soup was delicious too. If you’re ever in Lead, SD, don’t hesitate to look for this special place. You’ll be glad you did.
