The photos make Old Tail Inn look nice, but they seem to be from its last renovation. For $200 to $400 a night, I'd expect far more. Some lights and outlets worked, others didn't, and the place looked as if it hadn't had maintenance in years. No one was on site. They said they'd email a door code, but it never arrived; there's only a number to call if you need something. They don't clean rooms during your stay, and ours had just two towels. There was no air conditioning, and with the room opening onto a hot hallway, it stayed near 80 degrees until early morning. The pictured refrigerator wasn't in the room, and there was no ice. They do have a hot tub, but it was low on water. Our smart TV had free streaming but no live channels, and the Wi-Fi couldn't always keep up. Motel 6 looks like a luxury hotel next to this place. With prices like these, a stay should never cost more than $50. They get by because options are limited. Sleeping in your car might be better.

The bed was comfortable, I'll give it that. But the bathroom had no soap or conditioner, and the shower head was awful. You can get one for $12 on Amazon, so replacing it shouldn't be hard. We picked the place for the hot tub, only to find it wasn't working, and there'd been no notice.

I called to ask about checking in at midnight. They said it was possible, but if I booked through Expedia for $268 a night, they couldn't guarantee I'd get a room. To guarantee one, they said I had to book directly at their $468 rate. So even with a non-refundable Expedia booking, they might turn me away when I arrived. The whole arrangement felt like pressure to book directly at a higher price. Why work with Expedia if this is how they handle its bookings? Absolutely horrid service and booking arrangements.

The room was cute and the bed really comfortable, but we had trouble getting checked in. There was a number posted for help, and after calling again and again with no answer, we had to knock on doors until another guest helped us. Then both of us had cold showers because there was absolutely no hot water. Thankfully, it was only one night.
