Home2 Suites by Hilton Leavenworth Downtown

The breakfast was the biggest letdown of any Home2Suites or other Hilton property I've stayed at. You could make waffles, and they rotated hot grits and gravy for SOS. There were bagels and a toaster, but the main options were microwave biscuits and burritos. That's fine for a day or two, but pretty disappointing if you're there a week or longer. The location is convenient, with several places to eat within walking distance, downtown Leavenworth easy to get around, and Fort Leavenworth less than five minutes away. Staff were always pleasant, helpful and accommodating. The fitness center was a little larger and better equipped than at most hotels this size, which matters since many guests are TDY to Fort Leavenworth. I didn't have a dog, but saw several guests with dogs, and the hotel welcomed them. My room was about half the size of most Home2Suites. It was fine for me alone, but could feel crowded with two or more people on a longer stay, which is what the Home2Suites setup is meant for. It doesn't really live up to the “suites” name.

The pool was closed for maintenance during our stay, so there wasn't much for the kids to do at the hotel. Breakfast was really not good, and I was surprised they had no decaf coffee. The gym equipment was decent, at least, and the location is convenient, about eight minutes from Fort Leavenworth. I couldn't sleep because of loud banging and stomping upstairs for over an hour, so I went to the front desk. The male staff member said he'd check upstairs, but half an hour later there was still loud noise and running, and we still couldn't sleep. I don't understand why he didn't just call the guest and ask them to keep it down. The housekeeping staff were friendly and always brought us what we needed when we asked.

I didn't have a good stay. The walls are thin, and I heard my neighbor's TV all night. I called the front desk at midnight, but nothing changed. The mattress felt old and had lost its support, so the bed wasn't comfortable either. I left a day early to find somewhere quieter and more comfortable.

We had a better stay with a competitor on the way to our destination. On the way back, we had three rooms booked here, but this wasn't the usual Hilton experience. The rooms weren't clean, and I was disappointed this time.
