Comfort Suites Lebanon

I was impressed by how clean the rooms were and by the breakfast. This is a hardworking, working class hotel with strong management and a great cleaning crew. I don't usually choose Comfort Suites, but needed something within budget for my Lebanon project. The reviews and photos looked great despite the low price, and this stay was better than some places I've paid $200 a night for. Hotels under $100 have often been dirty or poorly run in my experience, so this was a welcome surprise. The indoor pool looked great too, though I didn't have my kids with me. Kudos to the managers and cleaning staff.

The breakfast was awful: watery gravy, slimy eggs, and sausage I wasn't sure about. The biscuit was the only item that seemed properly cooked. Our second night, the floor smelled musty and had dehumidifiers lined up along it. With the AC not getting very cold, the room stayed so humid I could barely sleep and got a headache. I didn't think asking for someone higher up was worthwhile after the way staff had acted. This is a generous 1. I've traveled more than most, and this was easily my worst stay. The place is old and outdated, which I could accept, but it was also run down and dirty. At first our room looked clean, until I saw the bathroom. There were wipe marks and a film on the mirror, the towels were shoved onto the shelves, and the toilet seat had smears on it. A dirty washcloth was left on the shower rod, and there was dried toothpaste on the tub spout. The shower control was unfamiliar, so I thought it was broken. When I asked the desk clerk, she laughed and said people often struggled with it, adding that instruction stickers kept going missing. She even pulled out a faucet example from under the counter to show me. Her treating it like a joke came across as unprofessional, and at 7 a.m. it was especially irritating. And about that “free” breakfast, it's part of the price like it is elsewhere.

The pool was warm and had enough towels, and the breakfast was one of the better hotel breakfasts we've had. The clerk at check-in was friendly. My daughter and I stayed one night, and although the hotel was busy, it stayed quiet. Our room was roomy and warm, everything worked, and the bathroom was huge. It was a good stay for the night. The hotel could use a thorough cleaning and some cosmetic fixes, but for the price we'd come back.

We had plenty of space, and the room fit all of us for our Annual Soul Sisters Christmas party. Breakfast was good, though the sausage and gravy were much too spicy for a lot of us. We liked using the pool, but couldn't really enjoy the hot tub as we'd hoped. Its handles felt slimy, the water looked almost green, and it smelled strange.
