For our anniversary, we tried the “Surprise Me, Chef!” at the Booker Lewis House, and Caleb Carter made it for my husband. It was fantastic. His huge plate had steak, vegetables, potatoes, and a sauce that was quite a surprise. I was a little jealous, and we joked about ordering the same meal next time while still asking to be surprised. We liked the relaxed atmosphere and the privacy from the waiting staff. We don’t like being hovered over, but they were there whenever we needed them. If the weather’s nice, sit outside under the ceiling fans in the fresh air. We will be back. Thanks for a great anniversary experience!

We took my mother-in-law to celebrate her 87th birthday, four of us in all. She and I had the top sirloin, my wife ordered the vegetarian lasagna, and my son got the chicken parmesan sandwich. Everyone loved the food. My steak was one of the best I’ve had in a long, long time, and easily the best in the area. My son is very picky, so his loving the sandwich really surprised us. We all agreed the food was excellent. The chef came over for a chat before we ate, then checked how everything was after we finished. That personal touch was nice. We had an excellent experience and will definitely return.

I’ve been here three times, and the last two visits were awful. A server they recently hired has terrible customer service, acts awkwardly, has gotten my order wrong more than once, and takes his time while flirting with other tables. If you aren’t ordering alcohol, he doesn’t seem to care about you. He ruined our experience at Mexico Lindo twice before, and we’d vowed not to go back there, so it was frustrating to find him working here too. The food was cold and burnt on those last two visits, and not good enough for the price. I waited over an hour for dessert and at least 45 minutes for my check. The last time, there was literally only one other table in the dining room. The first visit was decent at best. Service was extremely slow and the food mediocre. I tried the Surprise Me, Chef, which was some kind of chipotle chicken pasta and tasted like a meal a 12-year-old could make. I can’t make this stuff up. Unless you’re dying to waste money for fun, go somewhere else.

The owner was very friendly and seemed to genuinely care whether I was comfortable. My room was clean, charming, and nicely decorated. There’s an onsite restaurant with the best food in the area, plus a pub with friendly bartenders. I thoroughly enjoyed staying here and look forward to coming back.

Even on a business trip, this is a great place to stay. When you’re in generic hotels five days a week, it’s nice to get genuine care. I’d suggest this hotel to anyone.
