Hampton Inn & Suites Liberal

The lobby was gorgeous, with a great mountain view, and our room was really nice and clean. Our tub needed attention, though, and it was in fact dirty. Someone came to scrub it for us around midnight. We felt bad about the late call, but tipped her because we appreciated the hotel sending someone so late. The one catch is parking costs $15 per night. You can park nearby, but here’s a tip: towing your car is illegal if there aren’t posted signs. Do with that information what you will.

I’ve usually had good stays at Hamptons, but this one fell short. The breakfast was a disappointment for a diabetic: there was nothing suitable beyond sausage, with everything else being carbs. I also upgraded to a suite for more space, only to find the sheets were too small for the mattress. I could find just one trash can, so I put it on the kitchen counter to avoid walking around the bed to throw things away. And as a diabetic, I need to dispose of needles, but there were no sharps containers. What a letdown.

We’ve stayed here for years, and the standards and maintenance seem to be slipping. The first room’s TV didn’t work, and the desk staff seemed to already know about it. In the next room, the tiles by the tub were loose and some desk lamp bulbs were out. The second-floor ice machine was broken too. The staff were friendly and helpful, at least.

It’s conveniently located right off the main road, so I stopped for a night during a road trip. The room was otherwise fine, but there was mold on the bathroom wall and an insect problem. The pet fee is $75. Breakfast was below par, with the usual eggs, bacon, and cereal, and the pastries were rock hard. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
