Liberty Motel

We were gone in under an hour. The room was so dirty I wouldn't even pee in it, and I can't say anything about the area because I left. I found two dead cockroaches under the bed while looking for an outlet to charge my phone. There were drywall holes all over, peeling bathroom caulk, and a broken curtain rod that wouldn't close the window completely. They'd called hours earlier to ask when we'd arrive so they could turn on the heat, but the room was freezing and the heat wouldn't start. The front desk was friendly, but they said the reservation I'd made over two weeks earlier, with full confirmation, hadn't been paid and asked me to pay the whole bill again in cash. To be fair, they didn't force me, and they contacted the booking agency. I went to a hotel a bit farther away instead, and for peace of mind and safety, that was definitely the right call. Don't book here unless they overhaul the cleaning, patch the drywall, and at least keep the cockroaches out of sight.

You won't find many amenities here, but if you want a comfortable bed and pillows, a warm welcome, and a stay in a small town like Liberty, it's a good affordable choice. The hosts are wonderfully hospitable. They're renovating the modest motel room by room, and even the older rooms are clean enough.

The room was very clean and comfortable when I stayed over Memorial Day for the Liberty Quest orienteering event. Checkout is at 11, but the owner kindly let me keep the room until after noon at no extra cost so I could shower and change after the event.

The rooms weren't dirty and there weren't bugs, which is about the best I can say. My first room felt too much like a jail cell, so I asked to move. They put me in the room next door, a little better but still not much. Both rooms were cold and generally uncomfortable. It wasn't the worst place I've stayed, but it could definitely use improvement.
