The Royal Sonesta Kaua'i Resort Lihue

The Polynesian Drum Luau right on the beach was the highlight for us. The food and drinks were great, and it was a wonderful cultural experience. The resort itself was excellent too, with clean rooms, good facilities, and friendly staff. Best place to stay on Kauai, and we'll book there again when we visit!

The pullout mattress was so thin and uncomfortable that anyone over about 80 pounds would probably be better off on the couch. It was meant to be a second queen, but it really wasn't suitable for most people. I'd arrange better sleeping conditions next time, though I'd still stay here again. There was plenty to enjoy otherwise: easy beach access, a huge pool, clean rooms, good shower pressure, and great temperature control. The gym was well maintained and had updated equipment, including dumbbells, kettlebells, lots of machines, two Peloton bikes, and a room with rollers, yoga mats, boxes, and bands. The spa was pretty ordinary, though the massage and masseuse were pleasant.

Concierge Belinda deserves a special thank you. She was always ready to help us with tours, things at the hotel, restaurants around the island, and pretty much anything we asked about. We stayed at Royal Sonesta for our 45th anniversary, and everyone was so kind and helpful. We had a great experience and a lovely time.

The pool is beautiful, and our room had lovely views of it, the grounds, and the ocean. The rooms are nicely appointed, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed Duke’s and Cafe Portofino, both on the hotel grounds. The resort has a luau every Thursday, for an extra charge.
