Clarion Inn Surfrider Resort

The view was top notch, and the hotel gave my wife and me a clean, functional place to sleep while we were out at the coast. The room felt aged and worn, and the bath towels were more like hand towels. There was no daily maid service unless you asked for it. A new mattress, larger and newer towels, daily housekeeping, and reopening the bar area would make this a five-star stay.

We stayed a few nights over Thanksgiving weekend, but ended up cutting the vacation short. I woke up with more flea bites each night and was so uncomfortable and uneasy about having shared the bed with unwanted guests. I was also worried about bringing them home. We contacted the hotel to ask for a partial refund for the nights we were supposed to stay, but heard nothing back. I called twice more and left a voicemail, still no response from management. I wouldn’t stay again.

The ocean view from the room is the one thing this place has going for it. The restaurant, bar, and hot tub are permanently closed, they said the pool was open, which is why I agreed to stay, but when we arrived it was shut because the heater was broken. The room water also came out poop brown for a little while. This place seems to be going downhill.

The staff were friendly, and the room I was assigned was clean and free of mold. I’d seen October 2025 reviews complaining about mold and cleanliness, so the room met my expectations. The hotel seems to be going through some changes, and I’d give it three stars in each category. It’s oceanfront with a view, as expected. The ocean is partly obstructed from inside the room, but balcony railings have to be a certain height. If you’re unprepared to go outside on the balcony in cold, damp Oregon coast weather, that’s an individual issue, not the hotel’s. The sign isn’t lit. I was coming from the north, and even with a map app I drove past it and had to double back. Also, the cleaning products leave a distinctly pungent smell that lingers. I slept with the windows open and kept the deck door open, with the screen door propped open while I was awake. I sincerely recommend that management change the cleaning products.
